Safety and efficiency are of the utmost importance when moving loads to and from a ship. Employees assisting the crane operator in the moving of loads must be aware of the dangers and how to deal with them. Safe reading of loads and good communication with the crane operator are an important part of this. The following subjects are dealt with during the rigger dogsman training.

For deck personnel who assist the crane operator in moving loads or independently do rigging work below deck.
