Crane Operator Offshore 1.10 Entry Course

A crane operator moves loads on offshore installations to and from supply boats. From great heights, they must be able to communicate clearly with their colleagues. The crane operator is knowledgeable about safety aspects of lifting equipment and load attachment. They are also responsible for the daily maintenance of the offshore installation. All these aspects are covered during the Offshore Crane Operator course.

Our training course Crane operator offshore installations (1.10) is given in accordance with OPITO and OMHEC guidelines and is accredited by NOGEPA.

What will you learn during the training?

The course combines theory and practice. You will learn about:
• Offshore cranes – types and appearances
• Safety aspects of lifting equipment – ​​chain and chainwork – steel cables – lifting straps – special lifting equipment – ​​maintenance, storage and visual inspection
• Safe connecting of loads
• Communication – hand and arm signals
• Daily maintenance
• Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical engineering.

What do you get afterwards?

Step 1: Entry course: The student completes the basic training with a theoretical and practical exam. If this assessment is positive, the student will receive the Provisional Certificate of Expertise & Registration – Offshore Crane Operator.

Step 2: Offshore practical experience: After completing the course, you must complete at least 40 hours of crane operation under the supervision of a certified crane operator. These hours must be recorded by the HMI. You must also complete and pass the assignments in the practical assignment book.

Step 3: Exam: After this period, you can apply for an exam with us. This exam will take place at the offshore location. During the exam, all practical skills will be tested, including loading and unloading a supply boat. If you pass the exam, you will receive the NOGEPA-recognized Certificate of Expertise & Registration – Crane Operator Offshore. This Certificate of Expertise & Registration is valid for a fixed period of four years.

Additional information

To be eligible for the Refresher training, you must operate the crane for at least 10 hours per year. These hours must be recorded by the OIM.
