Low Voltage Distribution Installer

As a low-voltage engineer, you'll install underground low-voltage cable networks, house connections, and perform work on meter boxes. You'll work from drawings and follow instructions. You'll assist with digging trenches and laying cables in the ground. You'll install components such as connection and branch sleeves, bend copper, and install cables. You'll also assist with network outages. Safety is paramount when working with electricity. Working with low-voltage cables is a specialized profession within infrastructure technology. On Saturdays, you'll attend theory classes at SOMA Bedrijfsopleidingen. If you require additional practical training, these can be arranged in consultation with you at an accredited workshop. The training takes approximately one year, depending on your level and pace. This training is based on the "Low-Voltage Engineer" qualification file with CREBO 27007. The training is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), in accordance with the guidelines of the CKB and/or Bei/BLS. You will follow this training alongside your work at an accredited training company.

What will you learn during the training?

The course consists of 20 theory lessons in Harderwijk. You can also work through the digital course material at your own pace and level. The digital course material is provided by the Blei Foundation and includes:

Base:

  • Customer friendliness and conflict management
  • Preparation of work and setting up the work location
  • Communication and etiquette
  • Civil works
  • From Source to Customer
  • Safety awareness
  • Laying LS Cables

Vocational training:

  • Mounting connections
  • Installation of low-voltage distribution networks and 2-storey modules in the field of low voltage.
  • For example: Floor 1 Smart meters or floor 2 Measuring and testing.

Generic subjects

Dutch, Math, and Career & Citizenship are compulsory components of the program. If you have already completed these at level 2 or higher, you can be exempted from Dutch, Math, and two electives. This results in a reduction of €725 excluding VAT on the total amount. Please indicate this when you apply.  

Practice

The majority of the training consists of theoretical lessons, but participants will also regularly complete practical training hours (BPV: Professional Practice Training). To assess your proficiency in your field and meet the required qualifications, a Proficiency Test (PVB) will be administered at the end of the training. Specific cables are required for this PVB, which participants must provide themselves. If desired, we can supply the necessary cables for an additional fee. Portfolio

Throughout the program, you'll document your progress in a portfolio. This forms an important foundation for obtaining your final diploma.

What do you get afterwards?

In addition to your portfolio, you will take several theory tests and practical exams. You will receive your diploma once you have passed all exams.

Additional information

  • You can enter this course at two points in time: at the start of the course and around January each year. Contact us for the exact dates.
  • For this course, you'll need a laptop with internet access, Word, and Adobe Reader. For the exam, you'll need specific materials, such as a cable. You'll need to provide these yourself.  
  • This training is for employees who work with low-voltage cables.
