SOMA Training wants Taskforce to tackle staff shortages in construction.
The desperate demand for qualified personnel demands action. SOMA Bedrijfsopleidingen, a training provider for the infrastructure sector and vertical transport, is advocating for the creation of a task force to address the increasing shortage of personnel. "We are shifting from an economic crisis to a personnel crisis. We must pull out all the stops to stem the flow of vacancies," says SOMA Bedrijfsopleidingen. The training institute points to a large untapped potential currently being sidelined. "This includes the nearly 400.000 unemployed people counted by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) in January 2018. In addition, there is enormous potential with small jobs or even no jobs at all, but who are still ambitious to accept a job." According to SOMA Bedrijfsopleidingen, career changers are currently the only truly viable channel for meeting the high influx of new employees. "In this way, we can tap into the large potential workforce that is still at large."
