The Hollands Midden Safety Region is investing in the future with the purchase of new emergency response vehicles (HV1). To optimally prepare firefighters for working with these upgraded vehicles, we provide practical, on-site training at the Fire Service Realistic Training Center (ROB) in Waddinxveen.
The introduction of the new generation of emergency response vehicles requires targeted training. Although the crew already has experience with similar vehicles, this new version introduces different techniques, capabilities, and points of attention. Through customized training, SOMA ensures that drivers and co-drivers can work safely, effectively, and in accordance with the latest guidelines.
The training centers on a logical mix of theory and practice. Participants delve into legislation and regulations, safety, and risk management, but primarily engage in realistic exercises. Examples include executing hoisting operations, correctly attaching and guiding loads, and operating the salvage winch. Topics such as load calculation, shoring pressure, center of gravity determination, and the application of a Last Minute Risk Analysis (LMRA) are also covered extensively.
Working with emergency vehicles requires not only technical knowledge but also good communication and cooperation. Therefore, during practical exercises, much attention is paid to the use of hand and arm signals and operating safely in complex situations, taking into account people, animals, and the environment.
Small groups
The training sessions are conducted in small groups, allowing ample opportunity for personal guidance and asking questions. Participants work with their own equipment in a familiar environment, which enhances direct practical applicability. The course concludes with an assessment, after which participants receive a certificate upon successful completion.
With this approach, SOMA makes a concrete contribution to maintaining the professional competence of emergency services. Well-trained professionals are essential to act quickly and safely in diverse and often high-risk situations.
