In collaboration with Van Gelder we recently launched the course Interchangeability in the Asphalt Plough Provided. A practical, customized training course focused on teamwork, flexibility, and mutual understanding. With abundant sunshine during the course days—as can be seen in the photos—the conditions were ideal for working together outdoors.
The training was fully tailored to Van Gelder's working methods and practices. In addition to a theoretical component, there was ample opportunity for input from the company itself. Projects from the past year were discussed: what went well, where were the areas for improvement, and what lessons will we learn? Projects planned for next year were also previewed.
This connection between theory and personal practice led to valuable conversations and concrete insights that can be directly applied in work.
Within an asphalt crew, everyone has their own role and responsibility. This training focused on three components:
working with the balk;
working with the asphalt paver;
working with the waltz.
The participants learned about each other's work and what the various tasks within the team entail. By experiencing what a different role entails, more understanding and respect for each other's work.
In addition, interchangeability increases the flexibility on the work floor. If someone is unexpectedly absent, a colleague can take over the work, even if it is not normally their regular task. This makes the team less vulnerable and ensures more efficient implementation of projects.
The participants indicated that they found the course not only informative but also very enjoyable. Working together, learning together, and improving together strengthens team spirit. And that's precisely what interchangeability is all about: functioning optimally as a team, with an eye for quality and for each other.
