DLP and DLP-R, what will change

Harderwijk, March 2020 – In the coming months, a great deal will be happening regarding work in and with contaminated soil. There is a new CROW publication that replaces publication 132 Working in and with contaminated soil and publication 250 Working with cables and pipelines. New requirements are being set for your employees as DLP-er, DLP-R-er, and OPM.

We have listed the most important changes for you.

What is the difference between DLP and DLP-R?
According to CROW 400, the use of the DLP-R will soon be mandatory for the higher safety classes (see Module 5 of CROW 400). Compared to the regular DLP, the DLP-R primarily has additional requirements regarding performing air quality measurements. We estimate that 70% of current DLPs can continue as DLPs provided they retrain in time to meet the new CROW 400 DLP requirements.

Only in the more stringent safety classes will the DLP-R be used. Compared to the regular DLP, a DLP-R primarily has additional requirements regarding performing air quality measurements. The DLP-R designation can be obtained by successfully completing the central DLP-R exam. This exam consists of a theoretical and a practical section. After successfully passing both exams, the candidate is registered in the public DLP-R register.

DLP DLP-R admission requirements and exam
The regular DLP training program requires a minimum of classroom instruction and/or self-study hours, as stipulated in the CROW 400 guidelines. SOMA Bedrijfsopleidingen continues to offer the three-day course, with the exam on the final day. The regular DLP program concludes with a DLP exam.

The DLP-R has no requirements for taking lessons. Participants may register directly for the exams. The theory exams are held at more than 30 locations. The practical exam takes place in Nieuwegein. We recommend that DLP-R participants always take the DLP course to be fully prepared for the exam.

DLP repetition
If your DLP certificate expires before July 1, 2018, we recommend that you take the new DLP training course in accordance with CROW 400. Even if your DLP expires after July 1, 2018, you must complete the new DLP training course in accordance with CROW 400 to be eligible to work as a DLP.
It is not possible to attend a refresher day to obtain recognition for the new regular DLP.
