The paving training program takes place alongside your work. You'll learn practical skills at an accredited training company and theory during our training days. The program lasts 1 to 1,5 years and can be attended on Saturdays. Craftsmanship and safety are key. During the training days, you'll be given assignments that you can complete during your weekday workdays. During the paving training program, you'll work with digital learning materials. This means you'll need a laptop so you can bring it to class and study at home.

What will you learn during the training?

As a paver, you'll work for small or large companies specializing in paving. As a paver, you'll lay new paving, as well as squares, gardens, and sidewalks. During the training, you'll learn everything about installing, repairing, and removing curbs, drains, street drains, manhole covers, gutters, and everything else you encounter on the street. Once you've completed the training, you'll be qualified to professionally install groundwork, sewer systems, and decorative paving. In addition to the practical work, you'll also be involved in preparatory work, such as laying stones, measuring and setting out, and cleanup. Your work area includes many public spaces, such as residential areas, shopping centers, and business parks. Therefore, it's especially important that you work safely and understand the risks.

OCW-recognized optional

The paving training program is industry-recognized and can be accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) if desired. You can indicate this before starting the program. If you choose this option and want to obtain the MBO level 3 Paving diploma, you will also receive practical training, Dutch, math, and career & citizenship. You will also take three or more electives. With an elective, you can broaden or deepen your training and focus on career opportunities.

Practice

The largest part of the training consists of theory lessons, in addition you are expected as a participant to regularly complete practical hours (BPV: Professional Practice Training).

What do you get afterwards?

Once you've passed all the theory exams and the practical exam, you'll receive your diploma. You're now ready to hit the road. You'll be able to professionally and safely install, maintain, and repair new paving.

Additional information

  • The paver training is at level 3 and lasts 1 to 1,5 years. On Saturdays, you have theory lessons divided into various modules. Each module concludes with a theory exam.
  • Do you not yet have sufficient practical experience or prior knowledge? Then the course is Opperman Bestratingen level 2 a good foundation to get to know the profession and gain practical experience.
