Safe working with electrical equipment (NEN9140) for drivers/operators

Safe working with electrical equipment (NEN9140) for drivers/operators

With the advent of electrically powered vehicles, tools, and other equipment (such as vibratory plates, rammers, and grinders), other technologies are emerging. These also entail new risks, such as dangerous electrical voltages of up to several hundred volts. NEN 9140 specifies how to work safely on (hybrid/hydrogen) electrically powered trucks and machines. Gaining knowledge of these is essential given the risks.

During this one-day course, you'll learn, as a professional driver or operator, what you can and cannot do with electrical equipment. This will give you a better understanding of the risks. Working safely is paramount, and you'll learn how to protect yourself and your surroundings.

If you successfully complete this course, you will be able to independently assess risks during daily maintenance, malfunctions, or emergency situations, and you will know what you can and cannot do.

The course is suitable for:

  • For professional drivers and operators who work with (hybrid/hydrogen) electric (construction) vehicles and/or equipment.
  • For operators of electrical equipment such as vibratory plates and rammers. For professional drivers and machine operators who work with (hybrid/hydrogen) electric (construction) vehicles and/or tools.
  • For operators of electrical equipment such as vibratory plates and rammers.

What will you learn during the training?

The course consists of theoretical lessons. You will learn about:

  • Why NEN 9140
  • Relevant legislation and regulations
  • NEN 9140 definitions
  • Tasks and powers of the Sufficiently Instructed Person (VOP), Competent Person (VP), Work Supervisor (WV)
  • Voltage, current and resistance (Ohm's law)
  • Current and the human body
  • Identifying High Voltage (HV) components
  • Difference between on-board/control voltage and high voltage (HV)
  • (Interchangeable) HV batteries, incl. charging
  • Fuel cell and hydrogen cylinders (safety)
  • Daily maintenance of electrical machines
  • Jump-starting and keeping electric vehicles and/or machines ready for use
  • How to handle emergency situations involving electric vehicles and/or machines
  • Special applications and reuse.

What do you get afterwards?

At the end of the course, a theory test is administered. Upon successful completion of this test, the student will receive a "NEN 9140 Driver/Operator Electric Vehicles" certificate.
