Safe working on E-machines for technicians (NEN9140)

Safe working on E-machines for technicians (NEN9140)

With the advent of electrically powered tools, other technologies are emerging. These also bring new risks, such as dangerous electrical voltages of up to several hundred volts. This poses a risk not only to yourself, but also to those around you. Therefore, it's essential to know how to work safely on hybrid and electrically powered machines.

This one-day course is mandatory for electrical machinery technicians. You'll learn what you can and can't do and gain a better understanding of the risks. Working safely is paramount, both for yourself and those around you.

If you successfully complete this course, you will be designated as a qualified professional according to the NEN 9140 standard. You will receive a certificate to add to your personal toolbox, or resume.

The course is suitable for mechanics who work on and maintain electrical and hybrid machines.

What will you learn during the course?

The course combines theory and practice. You will learn:

  • Why NEN 9140
  • Relevant legislation and regulations
  • NEN 9140 definitions
  • Working in the danger zone
  • Tasks and powers of the Sufficiently Instructed Person (VOP), Competent Person (VP), Work Supervisor (WV)
  • Relationship between voltage, current and resistance law (Ohm's law)
  • Current and the human body
  • Operation of High Voltage (HV) components
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Board/control voltage versus High Voltage (HV)
  • HV batteries and charging systems and battery management system
  • Fuel cell (stack) and protections
  • HV system safety
  • De-energize and demonstrate de-energization

What do you get afterwards?

At the end of the course, a theory test is administered. Upon successful completion of this exam, the student will receive a "NEN 9140 Qualified Person (VP)" certificate.
