Operators of mobile cranes, such as telescopic cranes or crawler cranes on construction sites, must be certified. You can become certified by taking this Mobile Crane Operator W4-01 course. During this course, you will learn everything necessary to perform safe lifting operations. We will prepare you for the theoretical and practical exams, which meet the final and test criteria of the TCVT certification scheme. The duration of the course varies depending on your knowledge and experience. We offer a 10- or 20-day course, with the exams administered by an external examination agency on the last day (the 10th or 20th day). Good to know: this course is eligible for applying for a SOOB subsidy.

What will you learn during this course as a crane operator?

The course combines theory and practice. You will learn about:

  • The legal obligations and concepts of vertical transport.
  • The technical aspects of the mobile telescopic crane.
  • How to properly use chains, wire ropes, and lifting straps.
  • The essence of capacity, stability and security.
  • The correct connecting and guiding of loads.
  • How to perform lifting operations safely.
  • Working with load flight data.
  • The importance of daily maintenance and troubleshooting.

What do you get afterwards?

We conclude the course with a theoretical and practical exam (conducted by an independent agency). After successfully completing both exams, you will receive the TCVT "Mobile Crane Operator" certificate. This certificate (and the XS-ID app) are issued by TCVT-RA (digital document). The received certificate/certificate is valid for 5 years. The participant pays the fee for this certificate, €195 excluding VAT, to TCVT-RA. We are not involved in issuing the certificate.

Additional information

  • The registration is valid for 5 years and can be renewed based on demonstrable practical experience (digital registration) and the mandatory recertification course. The first training day is in the first 3 years and the second training day in the last 2 years.
  • If there are enough participants, the course will take place at the Bouw & Infra Park in Harderwijk. Due to the practical component of this course, the groups are small and therefore fill up quickly.
  • The 10-day course requires good reading skills to prepare for the scheduled training days. We recommend a reading level of at least MBO-3 (intermediate vocational education) level. Good hand-eye coordination for operating a telescopic crane and a high level of knowledge of lifting operations are also required. The 20-day course, on the other hand, offers additional opportunities for reviewing the course material and completing additional practical assignments. This 20-day course is therefore suitable for new prospective operators without any experience.
  • A future participant may have a assessment (entry test) A test is administered to assess the participant's current level of knowledge and skills in relation to the final and test objectives, and to recommend a training duration or other options. The cost per participant per half-day test is €375 (excluding VAT). A short report with our findings will be provided after the test.
