Working Safely with the Telehandler – Fork Carriage

Working with a telehandler in difficult-to-reach places and at great heights can pose significant risks. It's therefore crucial that you comply with the latest safety requirements. If you operate a telehandler, the employer is required by the Dutch Working Conditions Act to demonstrate that you, as an employee, are sufficiently trained. This course has been developed to enable you to obtain a certificate. Working safely and responsibly with a telehandler is the focus. This one-day training focuses on operating a telehandler with a fork carriage. Upon successful completion of the practical assessment, you will receive a certificate.

What will you learn during the course?

The course combines theory and practice. You will learn about:

  • applications of telehandlers
  • construction and operation of telehandlers
  • equipment
  • risks
  • laws and rules
  • making the telehandler ready for use
  • driving with the telehandler
  • setup and stability
  • safe lifting
  • daily maintenance and inspection

What do you get afterwards?

After completing the course, a practical exam will be administered. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the "Safe Working with a Telehandler – Fork Carriage" certificate.

Additional information

  • Telehandlers are frequently used on (construction) sites. Various attachments are often used to make the telehandler multifunctional. However, this also presents a risk. Please note the following:
    • At hoisting operations A safety certificate is not sufficient for a (rotating) telehandler with a fixed jib or winch. For this telehandler operator, obtaining a TCVT registration/certificate Telehandler Operator with Lifting Function W4-07 A legal requirement. This training requires significantly more knowledge and skills from the operator due to the many hazards that can occur on a construction site. We're also referring to a "driver" here, not an "operator."
    • Working from a work tray, which is attached to the telehandler as an attachment, the operator will need to obtain certification for an aerial work platform. The one-day training "working safely with the aerial work platform' meets this.
    • There must always be an assembly declaration for the combination of the attachment in question and the telehandler that is used at the work location.
